Ambition Institute strongly believes that, across the education sector and in our own organization, nobody should face barriers in their career because of their background, ethnicity, gender, sexuality or disability. Addressing racism and bias in our education system is therefore at the heart of our charitable mission to tackle educational disadvantage and entrenched inequality.

At present, there are around 450,000 teachers in England, of which around 18,400 (6.31%) are BAME heritage, and around 3% are black. Of the 22,400 principals or headteachers, however, just 1.7% are BAME heritage (DfE, 2020).

This project is part of an organisation-wide priority to help Ambition Institute to become better at supporting educators from a BAME background. We are committed to supporting the educator community by providing high-quality training programmes to a range of educators, from Newly Qualified Teachers to Multi-Academy Trust CEOs.

Milestones

1

Best practice sharing and replication

During the first stage, we would like to draw from Credit Suisse's experience to understand:

  • The highlight of Credit Suisse's work to ensure you are appealing to a broad range of clients/applicants?
  • Considering your experience over the years, what should be our priority now?

2

External perspective

As a third milestone, we would like to focus on how big of an impact the general marketing of your company has on becoming a go-to provider/firm/workplace for inclusion and diversity? (Website, adverts, twitter etc).

3

Internal Perspective

In this milestone, we would look forward to drawing from the volunteer's expertise in the following:

  • What kind of internal staff training have you implemented within your organisation to ensure that the relevant colleagues are able to recruit/sell effectively?
  • What measures have you put in place to ensure that the actions you are taking are not seen as tokenism?
