Since 2013, the ROCK YOUR LIFE! (RYL!) mentoring program in Switzerland has been helping young people get a successful start in their careers or integrate into society. The program focuses on supporting young people who lack family support, come from difficult socioeconomic backgrounds, and/or have experience as refugees.
In one-to-one mentoring, young adults act as mentors, accompanying and supporting young people in the process of career orientation. The mentors accompany the individual process and promote both self-efficacy and the social skills of the young people through regular individual meetings.
The mentoring
is supported by four training blocks, application workshops, and other offers.
Through your involvement, you will experience exciting exchanges and get to know new ways of life. You will learn methods for developing potential and familiarize yourself with topics related to the educational landscape.
- As a mentor, you arrange biweekly meetings with the young person independently.
- During your meetings with the mentee, you will go through the tasks step by step using the documents and accompany and support the mentee on their way into the world of work and independence.
- For example, working through the provided documents together, planning and making phone calls, conducting research, holding discussions, and accompanying the mentee to appointments as needed. In consultation with the young person and according to your own needs.
- Joint participation in four training days that frame the mentoring.
- Participation in training courses for mentors.
Requirements:
- Interest in career orientation and coaching issues.
- Openness and understanding towards the lives of young people.
- Willingness to share your own experience and learn new things.
- German at least B2/C1.
- Second languages highly desirable.
Einsatzdauer:
- Zweiwöchentliche Treffen mit dem/der Jugendlichen über ein Jahr (März-März/ca. 60 Stunden im Jahr).
- Gemeinsame Teilnahme an vier Trainingstagen.
- Teilnahme an Schulungen für Mentorinnen/Mentoren.
Einsatzort:
- Schweizweit möglich in: Basel, Bern, Chur, Luzern, St. Gallen, Zürich, Fribourg, Genf, Lausanne und Lugano.
Introduction:
- Training and coaching by qualified trainers.
- Introduction: 1-2-day preliminary training on the role of mentor.
- BIZ information evening.
- Reflection meetings with other mentors, including group intervision.
- Voluntary exchange with other mentors possible (regular get-togethers).
- Voluntary leisure activities with other mentoring pairs possible.
Support:
- As a mentor, you will have a personal contact person and regular communication (phone, WhatsApp, meetings) with a trained mentoring pair coordinator (MPK).
- Contact person at the location: Location manager (SV).

Bildung ebnet den Weg in die Zukunft für jeden Einzelnen und die Gesellschaft. In der Schweiz müssen Jugendliche bereits mit 14 Jahren eine passende Anschlusslösung nach der Schule wählen. Eine schwierige Aufgabe, denn es stehen neben weiterführenden Schulen über 250 verschiedene Ausbildungen zur Auswahl.
In der Schweiz finden rund 12% der Jugendlichen nach der obligatorischen Schulzeit keine direkte Anschlusslösung, obwohl es in den vergangenen Jahren durchschnittlich mehr freie Ausbildungsplätze gab als Schulabgänger:innen. Im komplexen Bildungs- und Berufsbildungssystem der Schweiz beeinträchtigt eine ungenügende oder unkundige Unterstützung im Prozess der Beruflichen Orientierung die Chancen und Möglichkeiten eines Kindes, eine passende Anschlusslösung zu finden. Ein gelungener Übergang von der Schule in das Berufsleben hängt ebenfalls von der sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Situation des Elternhauses ab. Das ROCK YOUR LIFE! Mentoring-Programm bietet individuelle Unterstützung, die sie brauchen.
- Jugendliche werden frühzeitig, langfristig und individuell unterstützt
- Junge Erwachsene übernehmen die Rolle von Mentor:innen und sind somit nahe an der Lebenswelt der Jugendlichen
- Die Mentor:innen werden durch Trainer:innen geschult und begleitet
- Junge Erwachsene gründen und führen lokale Standortvereine
- Partnerunternehmen geben Einblick in die Berufswelt
- Wir arbeiten mit lokalen Berufsinformationszentren zusammen
