The Black Lives Awareness Group is an employee-led movement at St Giles which was set up in the wake of the tragic killing of George Floyd. The aim of the group is to provide a safe space to listen to the experience of others, to learn from each other and to take positive steps to build a more inclusive and diverse organisation at St Giles. All staff are welcome to join the group which will represent the views and issues raised by black staff members. The group will offer advice, support and development opportunities to black staff members, support organisational training and awareness raising and actively seek to improve diversity and inclusion at St Giles. The group will plan, promote and deliver events throughout the year to help promote understanding and empower colleagues to be able to discuss and act on race issues.

The group is in its infancy and is the first employee network of its kind at St Giles. We are seeking the support of an individual to help share their expertise in structuring employee resources groups and providing knowledge on best practice to ensure this group runs effectively and meets its objectives of improving equality, inclusivity and diversity and St Giles.

- Help create a structure which can frame the work of the Black Lives Awareness Group at St Giles

- Share best practice for setting up and running an Employee Resource Groups

- Share knowledge on Diversity & Inclusion training and initiatives that are effective at promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion

The Black Lives Awareness Group at St Giles has a core member group which meet every week to run the group and plan activities. We have a small budget available which we would be keen to use on events or training initiatives which we believe will bring about healthy discussion, promote inclusivity and sustainable change.

St Giles

We want to see a society where everybody – no matter what their background – has a positive future. This is because when somebody turns their life around, everybody benefits – their families, their children, the community they live in and society as a whole.

Those we help are facing huge challenges – poverty, deprivation, mental health issues and crime are all on the rise. However, we are working with our partners and local communities to do something about it – supporting people to turn their pasts into positive futures.

We enable people to overcome adversity through peer-based social action. The services we provide for 25,000 people each year cover help for vulnerable young people involved in or at risk of criminal exploitation, services helping adults and young people facing unemployment and poverty, help for vulnerable women and their families, prison and community-based support for people in the criminal justice system and specialist support for adults facing complex barriers.
