Fundraising Prospects Research
Challenge
Our organization is seeking a volunteer to research potential fundraising prospects that want to support our mission and programs.
Prospect research is a key element of successful fundraising. Identifying mission-aligned foundations, who also have the capacity to give meaningful donations, is the first step of building a mutual and meaningful relationship with a donor.
Expected outcome
- A document with about 25 funding prospects and information about them.
- Your recommendation on who to approach first.
Resources provided
- Website links to our mission and programs- to understand our goals and needs.
- An Excel template for tracking prospects, including certain metrics for each.
- List of prospect research resources.
Program structure

Kick Off Meeting
- Get to know each other.
- Review the project resources.
- Discuss the project, deliverables, and expectations.

Research Prospects
- You independently conduct the research.
- Compile the prospects in the template given and supply information about them according to the template.
- Rank them according to likelihood of funding us.

Discuss results
- We discuss your research.
- We celebrate you helping us further our mission.
