Sustainable WASH solutions for lasting health change in Africa

  • About the initiatives
  • UN SDGs
  • About the nonprofit

695 million of the 2.5 billion people across the world who lack access to improved sanitation live in Sub-Saharan Africa. Some 400 million people in Sub Sahara Africa lack access to a basic drinking water service. The combined impact of these factors is devastating to people’s health.

695 million of the 2.5 billion people across the world who lack access to improved sanitation live in Sub-Saharan Africa. Some 400 million people in Sub Sahara Africa, (2 out of 5 people) lack access to a basic drinking water service. The combined impact of these factors is devastating to people’s health.

Populations in African countries are ravaged by diseases related to poor water and sanitation including diarrheal diseases, malaria, and other neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) such as intestinal helminthiasis, schistosomiasis. The second leading cause of death among children under five are diarrheal diseases which kill more children than AIDS and malaria combined.

  • Improve water supply and sanitation services
  • Build the capacities of our partners (train local professionists in well-building techniques)
  • Strengthening accountability mechanisms by establishing local "water committee" whose members are trained in the maintenance of the wells

Fundraiser updates

  • 22 May, 2020

Dear supporters, on behalf of the whole AMREF-Team we would like to sincerely thank you for your dedications to this crucial project!

Especially in the current times with the Corona-virus also spreading in sub-Saharan countries, it is of life-saving importance to educate people on hygienic measures - this project has successfully run such education projects and is therefore a significant contribution to preventing the further spread of Corona.

This would not have been possible without your support!
