Background of the project

  • In partnership with Credit Suisse, Empact is running a programme designed to empower founders and leadership teams of 11 social enteprises in APAC. Called baSEcamp, it aims to equip these founders and leadership teams with strong business perspectives, address their specific organisational and individual challenges, as well as provide opportunities for peer learning.
  • One of the participants of baSEcamp is finding it challenging to communicate their niche business model to investors. As a result, they struggle to find suitable investors in the region who buy into their unique social enterprise model to support their work.

About the social enterprise needing support

  • Based in Bangladesh, this SE is an omni-channel marketplace of affordable products and services for industrial workers. They operate grocery stores inside apparel factories and achieves up to 9% cost-savings for the workers through negotiations with suppliers. Their stores also offer health insurance and zero interest credit facility to the workers.

What is currently done

  • They are looking to raise 300K as equity and 200K as Debt. Already raise 100K equity. In discussion with two investor for equity and with Bank for debt.

How would the project benefit the enterprise

  • It will help build the capacity of the founder to raise funds more effectively to scale up the impact of their work.

Extra note on number of volunteers required

  • The ideal number of volunteers for this project is 2 - 4 pax.

Extra note on timeline / start and end of project

  • The start and end date of the project is flexible; as long as it happens between Oct and early December 2022. Volunteers need to commit up to 3 working sessions with the social enterprise (see Milestones for more information); timeline will be dependent on everyone's availability.

  • Insights into profiles of impact investors and how to approach them
