NaturAktiv Ausserberg, Oberwallis
About the event
The flora and fauna, along with the surprisingly Mediterranean character of the landscape in Ausserberg, make this region truly unique. The area is defined by beautiful dry meadows, which are small-scale and highly diverse, ranking among the most species-rich habitats in Switzerland. However, as these less productive areas are increasingly left uncultivated, the dry habitats are becoming overgrown, leading to a loss of biodiversity.
The focus of this environmental action day is the preservation of these dry meadows. This includes maintaining the pastures, as grazing animals are essential for keeping these areas open and ecologically functional.
Tasks may include constructing a wolf-proof fence, clearing overgrown dry meadows, maintaining hedgerows and forest edges, building piles of stones and branches, and removing invasive neophyte species.
