About the event

The flora and fauna, as well as the surprisingly Mediterranean-like character of the landscape in Ausserberg, are truly unique. The area is characterized by beautiful dry meadows, which are highly structured and diverse, making them some of the richest habitats in Switzerland. However, because these low-yielding areas are becoming increasingly less farmed, the dry habitats are at risk of overgrowing, leading to a loss of biodiversity.

During the environmental action, the focus is on the preservation of these dry meadows. This also includes the maintenance of pastures, as grazing animals are essential for keeping these areas open.

The tasks include, for example, constructing a wolf-proof fence, clearing the dry meadows of shrubs, maintaining hedges and forest edges, building stone and branch piles, and combating invasive non-native species.
