Sponsor the Mother and Child Programme in India
The onset of the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis caught us all unprepared, but it was the low-income sections of society that were hit the hardest. To support the needy, The Akshaya Patra Foundation started its relief activities on 25 March 2020. The Anganwadi Kit Programme is one of their relief activities to support the food and hygiene needs of Anganwadi beneficiaries.
An Anganwadi is a rural child care system in India which combats hunger and child malnutrition.
Children in the age group 0-6 years constitute around 158 million of the population of India (2011 census). Anganwadi centres run by the Ministry of Women and Child Development are implementing various schemes for the welfare, development and protection of children.
- to improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age group 0-6 years;
- to lay the foundation for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child;
- to reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school dropout;
- to achieve effective co-ordination of policy and implementation amongst the various departments to promote child development; and
- to enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through proper nutrition and health education.
In order to achieve the above-mentioned objectives ICDS offers six main services:
- Supplementary nutrition;
- Pre-school non-formal education;
- Nutrition and health education;
- Immunization;
- Health check-ups; and
- Referral services
Immunisation, health check-ups, and referral services are related to health and are provided in association with national health services.
For better governance and effective delivery of these services, ICDS employs Anganwadi Centres as a platform. Thus, AWCs focus on and aim at providing holistic development for children aged between 0 and 6 years along with providing care facilities for pregnant and lactating mothers.
New mothers and growing children need your help the most at this moment.
You can donate to this programme and help feed the children and new mothers enrolled in the Anganwadi program.
Every Franc will count on getting closer to bettering the lives of the future human resources of the country.
