Building Resilient Communities through Agriculture
Rural communities in Cameroon face persistent poverty, limited access to social services, low agricultural productivity, and growing climate challenges. These issues undermine livelihoods, exacerbate food insecurity, and weaken resilience to socio-economic and environmental shocks. Our program seeks to address the root causes of rural poverty and build resilient, self-sufficient communities through inclusive, sustainable, and community-led development strategies. The program is designed to help farmers gain skills, access inputs, form enterprises, and process and market their products more effectively to generate higher incomes. As participating members, farmers can access information needed to produce, add value, sell their commodities, and develop effective linkages with resources such as financial service providers.
The ongoing sociopolitical crisis in Cameroon has devastated rural communities, particularly in the Anglophone Northwest and Southwest regions. Conflict has led to mass displacement, destruction of farmland, and disrupted agricultural activities. As a result, food insecurity has increased, local economies have weakened, and social cohesion has deteriorated. There is an urgent need for sustainable, community-driven solutions to rebuild agricultural systems and foster resilience. Shekinah Farms Incorporated seeks to support the implementation of sustainable agricultural techniques aimed at rebuilding robust, self-reliant communities in these regions. Our projects will improve food security, restore degraded lands, and empower vulnerable populations by promoting low-cost, scalable, and climate-resilient farming practices.
Implementing Community-based Agricultural Recovery & Resilience in conflict-affected areas like Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest (NWSW) regions requires a bottom-up approach that empowers local actors, rebuilds trust, restores productivity, and fosters long-term resilience. The bottom-up strategy fosters partnerships with local stakeholders to form farmer groups and cooperatives through which resources are disbursed. Some of our activities involve providing financial support, access to improved agricultural technologies, training in modern farming practices, climate-resilient seeds, irrigation systems, and market linkages to help participants increase their crop yields, improve food security, and generate sustainable income.
The provision of these resources will help participants increase their crop yields, reduce their subsistence farming reliance, and become more climate resilient. Consequently, their incomes rise, food security improves, and they become more resilient to economic downturns.
