Vocational training for Syrian youth refugees in Turkey

  • About the initiatives
  • UN SDGs
  • About the nonprofit

A high percentage of displaced Syrian children living in Turkey are at risk. Over 1 million youth haven't had access to education since the begining of the conflict. Too often, they are reduced to a subsistence existence by, for instance, selling water or tissue packs, or simply begging. Furthermore, these circumstances can lead to the marginalized and vulnerable groups being sexually exploited or more easily recruited by militant groups to become radicalized.
These displaced Syrian children, either orphaned or young members of mono-parental families, are expected to step in for a missing father. They are thus faced with taking low income jobs or begging (or worse) to provide for family needs.
Analysis has shown that there is a dire lack of informal education opportunities. The lack of education is a major hurdle to live a productive life. Without certain preventative measures being taken, the identified are destined to become an at-risk group. It has therefore become clear that there is a strategic need to provide opportunities for vocational training. This should be linked with specific forms of civil education as well. We are referring to both girls and boys in need of educational support, integration and empowerment for the possibility of positive alternatives for their futures.

Prevention of impoverishment, radicalization, marginalization, sexual exploitation and other at-risk situations for marginalized and vulnerable groups are the project objectives.
