Cycling for Good
Together we strengthen the mental health of children and young people in Switzerland.
Cycling for Good (C4G) is an initiative of UBS employees to take their bikes and cross the Eastern Alps starting in Switzerland and ending in Slovenia over 5 days (725km; 13,300 meters climbing). Participants from Switzerland will ride and collect charity donations for Pro Juventute.
More and more children and young people are feeling the psychological pressure caused by various crises: climate change, wars, inflation, or social inequality hit them at a particularly vulnerable time in their lives.
Pro Juventute offers help with its emergency hotline 147. On average, nine children and young people a day reported suicidal thoughts in 2023. This is an increase of 26% compared to the previous year. As a result, the number of crisis interventions also rose to 166 times in 2023, a 73% increase compared to 2020. Such interventions are necessary if it becomes apparent that there is a risk to others or to oneself, for example in the case of a suicide announcement.
The emergency hotline 147 is easily accessible, confidential and available day and night for children and young people in Switzerland. Professional counselors help, support and take care of children's and young people’s worries and fears and are there for them when they need them most.
The employees of UBS organize and lead the ''Cycling for Good (C4G)'' event themselves and also bear most of the costs for the ride, including travel, lodging, food, drinks, road safety and other support.
