Mentoring program fokusnetzwerk
The tandem program ‘fokusnetzwerk’ aims to create meaningful connections between refugees and local volunteers, facilitating their integration into Swiss society. fokusnetzwerk brings refugees (mentees) and volunteers (mentors) together and creates tandems in 1:1 (one mentor with one mentee) settings.
Volunteers can sign up as mentors. The requirements are:
· They should reside in the Canton Zurich and/or are willing to attend regular meetings in Zurich city and its vicinity.
· They should have good German language skills (at least level B1).
The volunteers are introduced and trained in volunteer work by the staff of fokusnetzwerk. During the mentoring phase, we are available for questions and contact you regularly by phone.
We organize a tandem festival twice a year, where you can exchange and network with other volunteers and refugees. Every two months, there is a peer consulting moderated by a staff member, and all mentors are warmly invited to participate and share their experiences with each other. The volunteers are also welcome to apply and participate at the courses and workshops on relevant topics that we offer on a regular basis.
-There are no logistical requirements for the tandem meetings.
We believe that volunteers should also be able to benefit from a tandem. We address the needs, expectations, and desires of the volunteers. We inform them about the areas in which they can support refugees in a tandem. In addition, we offer support throughout the entire tandem phase.
Additionally, they can learn from other volunteers during peer consulting sessions. They can also apply to our courses and workshops that additionally enable them in their volunteer activity.
During the information meeting we provide interested individuals with the framework conditions of volunteer activity in the tandem program. As soon as mentoring begins, we hand out additional useful materials to volunteers that they are free to work with in their tandem meetings.
