Habitat NYC is seeking a volunteer to conduct fundraising prospect research. The volunteer will work closely with and support the Resource Development team in researching potential foundation prospects to approach for support of our mission and programs.
Prospect research is a key element of successful fundraising. Identifying mission-aligned foundations who also have the capacity to give meaningful donations, is the first step of building a mutual and meaningful relationship with a donor.
The volunteer will be responsible for researching at most 25 Habitat NYC identified funding prospects, tracking key information requested by Habitat in an Excel template, and making recommendations on prospect outreach prioritization. This project requires flexibility, strategic thinking, and the ability to provide deep, targeted research on new opportunities for support.
Habitat NYC will share the following resources to ensure the volunteer has the tools needed to achieve success in this project: website links to learn more about our mission and programs; list of at most 25 identified foundation prospects; list of prospect research resources that are available to the volunteer; an Excel template created by Habitat NYC for collecting and synthesizing prospect research; additional templates and resources as needed.
The volunteer will report to the Vice President of Resource Development, Julia Diegel. In her absence, there will be an alternative point person identified for the volunteer.

Habitat for Humanity New York City
Habitat NYC works to ensure that low-income families have the opportunity to benefit from the stability and equity of home ownership. The scale of NYC’s housing crisis cannot be overstated: over 64,000 New Yorkers sleep in shelters nightly. Over 350,000 families are on waiting lists for NYCHA and Section 8 housing, outnumbering the 260,000 families currently being served by those programs. Forty-six percent of New York City renters are rent burdened. For prospective homebuyers, home prices in New York City have more than doubled since 1990, with median household income falling about 11% over the same time period.
