Each volunteer will conduct a remote 2-hour 1:1 consulting session with a business owner (and their leadership team) as they determine how to incorporate sustainability goals into their business strategy. The small and medium businesses participating are retail partners in shopping malls in Guatemala, including apparel, shoes, accessories, beauty/cosmetics, food & beverage, and books.

You will advise businesses on how addressing sustainability can be a competitive edge and help them create their Sustainability Commitment or ESG strategy. Participating businesses will have previously attended an interactive Sustainability Learning Lab and will be prepared to engage in this conversation.

1:1 Sessions occur September 28 through October 14.
Where: Remote on Zoom.
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours for each business. 2 to 4 businesses per volunteer.

All volunteer work will occur virtually on Zoom on a flexible schedule, and Bpeace will provide interpretation if needed.

Please note you are invited to attend our Sustainability Learning Lab on September 27 at 11:00 am EDT on Zoom. Please contact Stephany de Gonzalez at sgonzalez@bpeace.org to learn more about attending this learning lab.

Attending, or viewing a recording of the workshop and associated materials is necessary before starting your 1:1 advisory sessions.

The workshop will focus on:
·      What is sustainability.
·      Why do businesses need to have a sustainability strategy.
·      The competitive advantage of sustainability.
·      Exploring tools and ideas to create, validate or change sustainability strategy and growth vision for their organization.

Volunteers will collaborate with businesses, as they determine how to establish sustainability goals and develop their Sustainability Commitment or ESG strategy after being introduced to concepts during a virtual learning lab on September 27.

Your discussion will focus on:
- Challenges and opportunities to create, validate or change sustainability strategy.
- Analysis of current sustainability practice.
- Their commitment to create, validate or change their sustainability strategy and growth vision for their organization.

Deliverable: Sustainability Commitment or ESG Statement.

All volunteers' work will occur virtually on Zoom on a flexible schedule, and Bpeace will provide interpretation if needed.

Bpeace will provide:

  • A training platform to explore Bpeace's mission and values.
  • Opportunity to attend a virtual Sustainability Learning Lab, that will provide the training needed for 1:1 consulting sessions.
  • The deck associated with, and the video recording of the Sustainability Learning Lab for those who can not attend the live Zoom event.
  • A list of participating businesses, from which you may request which business you prefer to collaborate with for your 1:1 consultation.
  • A deck containing comprehensive information on the business you will be working with.
  • Assistance coordinating your 1:1 Zoom calls and simultaneous translation if needed.
  • Bpeace staff will support each consulting session to ensure engagement.
  • Technology platforms: Zoom, Google Sheets, Doodle, Teachable and Dropbox.

To learn more about this high-impact opportunity or about the Sustainability Learning Lab, please contact Stephany de Gonzalez at sgonzalez@bpeace.org.

Milestones

1

Review Content that will Guide your 1:1 Session

Attend the Sustainability Learning Lab or review the video recording and deck.

2

Get to Know the Business You are Advising

Familiarize yourself with the details of the business by reviewing their Growth File. Growth Files are a relatively short but fairly comprehensive PowerPoint profile of the business including their history, value proposition, product and customer descriptions, primary growth opportunities, main challenges, and how we can help them tackle those challenges and achieve their goals.

3

Select a Business and Coordinate your 1:1 Session

Work with the Bpeace team to select a business, and coordinate your 1:1 advisory session where you will assist the business with developing their Sustainability Commitment or ESG statement.

4

Submit the Final Deliverable to the Bpeace Point of Contact

Once the business has approved the Sustainability Commitment or ESG, you will submit the final version to your Bpeace point of contact.
