taki miundo school for deaf children
Our vision
By providing a qualified education, taki mundo opens up a future with prospects for deaf and hearing-impaired young people in Uruapan. We are committed to improving the standard of living of deaf and hearing-impaired people in Mexico and integrating them into society in the long term.
We therefore specifically promote understanding between hearing and non-hearing people and try to establish a corresponding awareness.
A qualified education and training is one of the most important things we can give children and young people for their future. This is all the more true if they have a disability.
But what if there is no access to the appropriate funding? What prospects are there for a life in dignity and respect? Astrid von Reding, the founder of taki mundo, asked herself precisely these questions during her stay in Mexico in 2006. On site in Michoacàn, one of the poorest states in Mexico, she experienced the sad existence of many deaf and hearing-impaired young people at first hand: isolated, considered “stupid”, a burden on families.
Shocking images that Astrid von Reding will never forget. Her decision was made: This should and had to change.
No sooner said than done

- a right to education and work that is actually realized
- Standardized examination methods for the early detection of hearing impairments in babies
- State-subsidized hearing aids
- the construction of our own taki mundo school building
- the search for suitable jobs for our school leavers
