JCTA Master Plan
We will develop new and promote existing trails in Johnson County for the
purpose of healthy recreation for our citizenry, economic re-vitalization -
infrastructure for agri-eco tourism, and responsible stewardship of our natural
resources.
In accordance with the Tennessee Greenways & Trails Plan, the Trails Association will
make efforts to provide all Johnson County residents and visitors with accessible,
environmentally friendly trails that blend in with our natural beauty. The Tennessee
Greenways and Trails plan has a goal “that every citizen of Tennessee has convenient
access to a greenway or trail. By implementing this plan, every community in Tennessee,
regardless of size or location, can have a greenway or trail to call its own.”
By interconnecting trail types, such as multi-use trails with hiking trails and equestrian
trails, all residents will have easy access to the trails system. This interconnectivity will
also tie paved bicycle lanes with multi-use trails and other bicycle trails, enabling
bicyclists to safely and easily access these trails without driving.
The Trails Association hopes to maximize the economic and quality-of-life benefits of our
geography with better public access. We hope to create a scenic, enjoyable and safe trail
experience for the residents of and visitors to Johnson County.
Funding and community cooperation are our biggest concerns.
In this vision we see communities within Johnson County connected through an
integrated system of trails. Within Johnson County, there will be access to designated
trails for horses, paddlers, ATVs, OHVs, mountain bikes, or hikers, and multi-use non-
motorized trails; as well, there will be designated historic and nature tours for those
confined to autos.
The multi-use non-motorized trail system will provide access to natural areas,
communities and neighborhoods, while preserving and protecting our most important
natural, cultural and historic resources and sites for enjoyment by current and future
generations.
