About the event

Cantina Cavallini, a small enterprise based in Cabbio, was founded in 1995 and cultivates 3 hectares of vineyards in Pedrinate, Morbio Inferiore, Castel San Pietro, and Vacallo—some of which have held federal organic certification since 2000. Over the years, Cantina Cavallini has implemented various principles of biodynamic agriculture and the use of EM (Effective Microorganisms). The agricultural practices of the company are characterized by no weeding, no use of mineral fertilizers, and a gradual renunciation of synthetic plant protection products.

The viticultural approach favors the cultivation of disease-resistant interspecific grape varieties (Chambourcin, Souvignier gris) and the production of wines certified under the Vinatura, DOC, and Heroic Viticulture labels. Luciano and Grazia Cavallini manage all of the company’s activities. They renovated the old stone farmhouse, transforming it into a typical and functional wine cellar where all work is still carried out using traditional methods. From bottling to labeling, everything is done entirely by hand.

The WWF supports the cooperative within the framework of the project "Nature Connects", which aims to enhance biodiversity and the connectivity of natural habitats in agricultural landscapes. This is achieved by providing financial support for concrete on-site measures that increase habitat diversity on cultivated land and establish or improve biological corridors, in line with Switzerland's Biodiversity Strategy.

The activities take place on two vineyards with high biodiversity. Trees and shrubs have been planted, a pond has been constructed, and there are several natural springs. The work includes protecting trees from hoofed animals and other wildlife, replacing and constructing stakes, eliminating invasive neophytes listed on the Federal "Black List," forest clearing, restoring natural springs, completing the construction of a pond, and building a pergola.
