Bicycle Repairs for Africa, Schaan
About the event
Recycled bicycles from Switzerland combine social and professional integration in Switzerland with sustainable development cooperation in Africa.
Thanks to your support, we can export more bicycles to the Global South, train additional bicycle mechanics, and help students become mobile by bicycle.
Your role:
Together with participants from the bicycle workshop / Auxilia, you will prepare donated bicycles for export to Africa. Is the bicycle functional? Are minor repairs needed? How can it be packed as efficiently as possible for transport? You will learn all of this during your assignment and get hands-on experience.
Since 1993, Velafrica has been collecting used bicycles, refurbishing them, and shipping them to Africa. Each year, over 20,000 bicycles are sent to the Global South, where they significantly improve people's daily lives. In addition to enhancing mobility, Velafrica supports the development of bicycle workshops and the training of mechanics. This creates jobs and income opportunities in bicycle assembly, repair, and sales.
In Switzerland, Velafrica works with social institutions that employ individuals who are unemployed or have disabilities, as well as organizations involved in rehabilitation programs. This approach successfully links integration work with international development cooperation.
